Accessible Guest and Attendee Service Plan

Temple Baptist Church, hereafter referred to as TBC, is committed to ensuring that all reasonable effort is made to serve its guests in such a manner that respects the dignity and independence of persons with disabilities.

Assistive Devices:

TBC will ensure that our staff and volunteers are trained and familiar with the various assistive devices that may be used by guests with disabilities while accessing our facilities. Anyone entering our facilities will be welcomed and provided with courteous assistance. Every effort will be made to ensure that their experience will be positive and encouraging.

Communication:

TBC will strive to communicate and interact with people with disabilities in ways that take into account their disability. In instances where staff or volunteers are unsure about the best approach to use, they are encouraged to ask the person politely and not assume how they can best communicate with them.

Service Animals:

TBC welcomes people with disabilities and their service animals who accompany them. Service animals are allowed on parts of the premises that are open to the public, with the exception of the kitchen, the nursery and the toddlers’ room. Other designated areas may be identified in the future should the leadership deem the presence of a service animal to be a danger to others.

Support Persons:

A person with a disability who is accompanied by a support person will be allowed to have that person accompany them on our premises. For functions and events that are hosted by TBC all charges will be waived other than the cost of meals when meals are provided by TBC.

Notice of Temporary Disruption:

In the event of a planned or unexpected disruption of services or facilities for customers with disabilities, TBC will attempt to provide notification promptly and directly. Every effort will be made to post a notice stating the reason for the disruption, and provide alternate facilities or services. This notice will be placed at conspicuous locations throughout the facility as well as on the TBC website.

Training:

TBC will provide training for church staff, contract employees and volunteers who deal with the public. This training will be provided to new staff within three (3) months of assuming their responsibilities. Training will include:

  1. An overview of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, and the requirements of the customer service standard.
  2. The TBC plan related to the customer service standard.
  3. How to interact and communicate with people with various types of disabilities.
  4. How to interact with people with disabilities who use an assistive device or require the assistance of a service animal or support person.
  5. What to do if a person with a disability is having difficulty accessing our goods or services.

Note: Training will also be available when changes are made to the TBC training plan.

Feedback Process:

Those who wish to provide feedback on the way TBC provides goods and services for people with disabilities are encouraged to convey their comments to the Office Administrator at Temple Baptist Church, either in person, by telephone (519-658-9001) or by email (info@templebaptistchurch.ca).

Concerns that are provided as feedback will be reviewed by the Lead Pastor, Elders Council or Deacons Board for discussion and appropriate response. A response to feedback can normally be expected within ten (10) business days.

Modification to this or Other Policies:

Any policy of TBC that does not respect and promote the dignity and independence of people with disabilities will be modified or removed.
